One day fewer than half the students showed up for a psychology class at an American university. The professor， who normally didn't take attendance， was annoyed and passed around a sheet of paper for students to sign. One of the missing was a very smart and warm-hearted guy the professor himself had had his eye on for a while. Not wanting him to get in trouble， the instructor considered signing his name. But when the sheet got to him， the professor decided against it. His name was already on the list－－－three times！


어느날 미국 한 대학 심리학 클래스의 출석률이 절반도 안 되는 일이 벌어졌다. 평소 출석을 부르지 않던 교수는 이건 묵과할 수 없는 일이라 생각해서 출석한 학생들의 서명을 받으려고 종이 한 장을 돌렸다. 교수의 눈에 띄지 않는 학생의 하나는 아주 총명하고 인정이 많아 한동안 그가 눈여겨봐 온 학생이었다. 그런 학생에게 좋지 않은 일이 있어서는 안 되겠다 싶어 교수는 그의 이름을 대신 적어 넣을까 생각했다. 그러나 한 바퀴 돌아온 그 종이를 받아보곤 그 생각을 접었다. 그 학생의 이름은 이미 거기 올라 있었다－－세 번이나.
