There was once an old native American who wanted a loan for $500.

"What are you going to do with the money?" the banker asked. "Get jewellery to take to city and sell，" was the response.

"What have you got for collateral?" the banker asked. "Don't know collateral." "Well， that's something of value that would cover the cost of the loan." The old man couldn't offer anything of value， but the banker decided to make the $500 loan.

Several weeks later the old man was back in the bank. He pulled out a roll of bills and handed the banker the money to pay his loan off.

"What are you going to do with the rest of that money?" "Put in tepee." "Why don't you deposit it in my bank?" "Don't know deposit." "You put the money in our bank and we take care of it for you." The Indian asked， "What you got for collateral?"


오래 전 일인데 미국 원주민 노인이 은행에서 500달러를 빌리려고 했다.

은행사람은 뭐하는 데 쓸 거냐고 물었다. "보석을 사서 도시에 갖다 팔려고요. " "담보물 있어요？" "담보물이 뭐요?" "빌려가는 돈을 대신할 만한 값나가는 물건이요. " 노인은 값나가는 물건을 제시하지 못했지만 은행은 500달러를 대출하기로 했다.

몇 주가 지나 노인은 다시 은행에 나타났다. 지폐 뭉치를 꺼내더니 빌린 돈을 모두 갚았다. "나머지 돈은 어떡할 건가요?" "천막 속에 둘거요. " "은행에 예치하지 그러세요. " "예치가 뭔가요？" "은행에 돈을 맡겨서 보관해주게 하는 거예요. " 그러자 인디언 노인은 물었다. "담보물은 뭐가 있지요?"
