When summer arrived， my teen－age son became increasingly irresponsible about the chores he was supposed to be doing around the house. He wouldn't even help to train our new puppy. As a single， working mom， I felt overwhelmed.

Finally I went to the library to get a book on dog training. As an after-thought， I also picked up a book called; 'Teenagers: The continuing Challenge' and took both to the checkout counter.

The librarian glanced at my selections."The dog is going to be a lot easier，" she commented.


여름이 되면서 십대의 아들 녀석은 그가 집에서 하기로 되어있는 일들에 대해 갈수록 무책임해졌다. 새 강아지를 훈련시키는 일조차 거들어주지 않는 것이다. 직장을 가진 홀어미인 난 질려버린 상태였다.

결국 난 개 훈련에 관한 책을 구하러 도서관으로 가게 됐다. 거기에서 생각난 김에 '그칠 줄 모르는 문젯거리－십대 어린이'란 제목의 책도 함께 집어 들고 대출 카운터로 갔다.

내가 대출하려는 책들을 본 도서관 직원은 한마디 했다. "강아지 훈련시키기가 훨씬 쉽답니다. "
