While recuperating from surgery, the man became cantankerous and
refused to follow the doctor''s orders to take a ten-minute walk three
times a day.

His wife coaxed, then nagged.

Nothing moved him.

In desperation, she lit upon a solution.

Three times a day she turned on every light in the house.

Her husband was annoyed at the waste, and it took him ten minutes
three times a day to walk around and turn the lights off.

걸어다니라는 의사의 지시를 따르려들지 않았다.

아내는 그를 달래보기도 하고 잔소리로 들볶아보기도 했지만 막무가내였다.

낙담하고 있는 중에 한가지 생각이 떠올랐다.

하루에 세번씩 그녀는 집안의 전등을 모두 켜놓았다.

전력이 낭비되고 있는 사실에 짜증을 내면서 남편은 전등을 끄려고 집안
여기저기를 돌아다녔다.

10분이 걸리는 그 일을 그는 하루 세번씩 한 것이다.
