Then he pulled off one of the flea''s legs, but still the creature
jumped upon command.

Two more legs were removed, and still the flea jumped.

Finally the earnest researcher pulled off the flea''s remaining legs.

After this the flea did not jump when commanded.

"One of my major findings," concluded the research man''s report,
"is that when all of a flea''s legs are removed, the insect becomes
deaf."

그 다음으로 그는 그 벼룩의 다리 하나를 떼어냈다.

그런데도 그놈은 명령한 내리면 여전히 벌떡 뛰었다.

다리 두개를 다시 떼어냈으나 벼룩은 끄떡없이 뛰었다.

열성적인 이 연구원은 급기야 그 벼룩의 나머지 다리도 떼어냈다.

그랬더니 벼룩은 명령을 내려도 움직이지를 않았다.

"이번 연구의 큰 성과중 하나는 벼룩의 경우 다리를 모조리 떼어버리면
귀머거리가 되고 만다는 사실을 알아낸 것"이라고 보고서는 결론을 내렸다.
