William S. Knudsen, the well-known businessman who worked as a consultant for the U.S. War Department during World War II, was questioned by a House committee about the progress being made in defense production．

He said; "Gentlemen, it‘s like this. Despite our modern hospitals, anesthetics, obstetricians, gynecologists and psychiatrists--despite all the advances in research, medicine, and science--it still takes nine months."


2차대전 중 미육군성의 고문으로 활약했던 저명한 기업인 윌리엄 누드슨이 방위생산의 진도를 조사하는 하원의 한 위원회에 나가서 증언을 했다．

"여러분， 그게 이렇습니다．우리가 현대식 병원, 마취술, 산과전문의들, 부인과전문의들, 정신과전문의들을 보유하고 있음에도 불구하고, 그리고 연구와 의술과 과학의 온갖 발전에도 불구하고 9개월이 걸려야 하는 사실은 어쩔 수가 없습니다."
