[해외유머] '영사자격'

The new Secretary of State had a firm rule never to appoint anyone to
the consular service who could not speak the language of the country to
which he was assigned.

When a politician called on him and asked to be appointed American
consul at a Chinese port, the secretary reminded him of the Department''s
new rule and added, "I don''t suppose you speak Chinese, do you?"

The politician grinned and said, "You just ask me a question in
Chinese and I''ll answer it."

He got the appintmen.

새로 국무장관이 된 사람은 주재국 언어를 구사하지 못하는 사람은 영사관
에 배치하지 않는다는 것을 철칙으로 삼고 있었다.

그래서 어떤 정치인이 찾아와서 중국의 어느 항구도시 영사자리를 달라고
하자 그 장관은 국무부의 새 방침을 밝히고 "중국말 못하시잖아요?"라고
했다.

그 정치인은 싱긋 웃으면서 "어디 중국말로 물어보시죠. 내가 대답할 테니"
라고 했다.

그는 그 영사자리를 따냈다.
