[해외유머] '라이벌의 등장'

Years ago when Jascha Heifetz, the famous violinist, made his debut
in New York, Mischa Elman, the great violinist, and Josef Hoffman,
the celebrated pianist, were in the audience.

As the concert proceeded the audience was spellbound by the genius
of young Heifetz.

But Elman fidgeted and squirmed in his seat and nervously mopped
his brow.

During a pause in the program Elman turned to Hoffman and said,
"It''s terribly hot in here, isn''t it?"

Hoffman smiled and whispered, "Not for pianists."

여러해전 유명한 바이올리니스트 야샤 하이페츠가 뉴욕에서 데뷔공연을
가졌을때 청중석에는 바이올린의 대가 미샤 엘만과 피아노의 명연주가
요세프 호프만이 있었다.

연주가 진행되면서 청중들은 젊은 하이페츠의 천재적 기량에 넋을 잃었다.

그러나 엘만은 안절부절 못하면서 초조해하며 정신없이 이마를 닦았다.

막간에 들어가자 엘만은 호프만을 보고 한마디했다.

"이거 지독히 무덥네요.

안 그래요?"

"피아니스트들이야 무더울것 없죠."

호프만은 빙긋하면서 속삭였다.
