[해외유머] '구두쇠'

The newly appointet chairman of the local fund-raising committee
decided to call personally at the home of the town''s wealthiest citizen,
a man well known for his tightness with a dollar.

The chairman pointed out how miserly it would seem if the town''s
richest man failed to give a substantial donation to the charity drive.

"You know," said the man, "I have a ninety-one-year-old mother who
has been hospitalized for the past five years and a widowed daughter
with five young children and no means of support.

You''ll agree that charity begins at home."

"I''m sorry," the ristor appologized.

"I had no idea that you were saddled with so many family problems."

"You must be crazy to think I''d give money to strangers when I
won''t even help my own relatives."

그 고장 모금위원장으로 새로 임명된 사람이 구두쇠로 이름난 최고갑부를
몸소 찾아가기로 마음먹었다.

그는 제일가는 부자가 자선을 위해 큰 돈을 희사하지 않는다면 얼마나
쩨쩨해보이겠느냐고 했다.

"나에게는 5년간 입원한 91세의 노모와 아이들 다섯이 딸린 과부가 되어
의지할데 없는 딸이 있어요. 자선이란 우선 내집에서부터 해야 하는 것
아닙니까"

"이거 미안합니다. 집안에 그렇게 큰 문제들이 있는 줄은 몰랐습니다"라고
방문객은 말했다.

"그런 집안사람들조차 돌봐주지 않는 내가 알지도 못하는 사람들을 위해
돈을 내주리라고 생각한다면 미친 수작이란 말이오"
