I was admiring a piece of modern sculpture―a reclining figure with a large hole where the stomach should be―when a couple came up beside me. They looked at the stature intently， and then the woman turned to her husband. "Now remember!" she suddenly exclaimed. "We forgot to bring the sandwiches!"


난 현대조각 작품 하나를 감상하면서 감탄하고 있었다. 드러누워 있는 그 사람은 배에 큼지막한 구멍이 뻥 뚫려 있었다. 바로 그때 남녀 한쌍이 내 곁으로 다가왔다. 두 사람은 그 조각을 유심히 바라보고 있었는데 여자가 갑자기 남편을 보고 큰 소리로 말했다. "이제야 생각나는군요. 우리가 샌드위치 갖고 오는 걸 잊었잖아요!"
