Asked to define communism, a Scotchman said, "If you have two automobiles, under communism you keep one for yourself and give up the other to the state."

"That's fine," said the other Scotchman. "And if you have two pianos, you keep one, give one to the state."

"That's ideal, too."

"Should you have two cows, likewise, you keep one and give the other to the state."

"I don't like that so well."

"Why not?"

"You see, I have only one auto and one piano, but I do have two cows."

공산주의가 무엇인지 말해보라고 하자 스코틀랜드 사람의 설명은 이러했다.

"자네가 자동차 두 대를 가지고있다면 공산주의 치하에서는 한 대만을 가지고 또 한대는 국가에 내놓아야 한다네"

"거 괜찮군"하고 다른 소크틀랜드 사람이 말했다.

"그리고 피아노가 두 대 있다면 한 대만을 가지고 또 한대는 국가에 바쳐야 하는 거야"

"그것 또한 좋은 일이로군"

"마찬가지로 소 두 마리를 가지고있다면 한 마리는 나라에 내줘야 하는 거라네"

"그건 좋은 일이라고 못 하겠군"

"어째서?"

"난 자동차와 피아노는 하나씩이지만 소는 두 마리란 말야"
