It was three o''clock on a cold, rainy morning when the doctor was
awakened by an emergency phone call.

Struggling out of bed, he drove miles to reach the patient.

"Why didn''t you call me in the daytime?" the doctor inquired.

"We''re poor people, sir, and not able to pay much," the father of
the sick girl explained.

"So we thought we''d call you when you weren''t too busy."

환자로부터 급한 전화를 받고 의사가 잠에서 깬 것은 궂은 날씨로 싸늘한
새벽 3시.

마지못해 자리에서 일어난 의사는 몇마일 길을 차를 몰고 환자를 찾아갔다.

"어째서 낮에 연락하지 않으셨어요?"하고 의사가 물었다.

"의사선생, 우리는 가난해서 돈을 제대로 낼 수 없습니다. 그래서 선생께서
별로 바쁘지 않은 시간을 이용하기로 했던 겁니다요"라고 환자인 처녀의
아버지는 설명했다.
