David received a parrot for his birthday． This parrot was fully grown with bad attitue and worse vocabulary． He tried hard to change the bird‘s attitude and was constantly saying polite words， playing soft music． Nothing worked． He yelled at the bird， it got worse． Finally， in a moment of desperation， David put the parrot in the freezer． For a few moments he heard the bird squawking， kicking and screaming and then， suddenly， all was quiet． David was frightened and quickly opened the freezer door． The parrot calmly stepped out and said； ”I‘m sorry that I offended you with my bad language． I ask for your forgiveness．．．．” David was astounded at the bird‘s change in attitude and was about to ask what changed him when the parrot continued， "Pardon me， may I ask what that chicken did？"

데이비드는 생일선물로 앵무새를 받았다． 그런데 다 자란 그 앵무새는 행실이 고약하고 내뱉는 소리마다 상스러운 것이었다． 그는 부단히 점잖은 말만을 사용하고 부드러운 음악을 들려주면서 앵무새의 행실이 좋아지게 해보려고 무던히 애썼다． 하지만 아부 소용이 없었다． 고함을 쳤더니 녀석의 버릇은 더 나빠졌다． 급기야 절망적인 심정에서 그는 녀석을 냉장고에 집어넣었다． 잠시 꽥꽥거리며 문을 걷어차기도 하고 고함을 질러대기도 하더니 갑자기 조용해지는 것이었다． 데이비드는 덜컥 겁이 나서 얼른 냉장고 문을 열었다． 앵무새는 얌전히 걸어 나오더니 말하는 것이었다． “내가 못된 말만 사용해서 화나시게 해서 죄송합니다． 용서해주세요．．．．” 녀석의 태도가 달라진 것을 보고 어리둥절해져서 그 까닭을 물으려는데 앵무새의 말이 이어졌다． “죄송합니다만 저 닭은 무슨 짓을 했던 건지 물어봐도 될 까요？”
