The mother noticed that her older daughter wouldn‘t play with little sister Alice．

"Dear, why aren‘t you and your friends nicer to Alice？"she asked．

Her daughter answered indignantly； "Because she’s too young and she ruins everything."

"Please let Alice play with you and be more patient with her."

Later, the mother glanced outside and saw Alice sitting alone．

"Alice,"she called "aren‘t the girls playing with you?"

"Oh yes,Mama,"Alice answered happily．

"I’m the maid and it‘s my day off."


어머니가 보니까 큰딸은 동생을 놀이에 끼워주지 않고 있는 것이다．

"얘, 어째서 너희는 앨리스에게 좀 잘 해주지 못 하냐？"하고 어머니는 물었다．

"너무 어려서 판을 깨버리게 때문에 그런 거잖아요"라며 큰 딸은 짜증을 냈다．

"제발 참을성 있게 함께 놀아주지 그러니."

얼마 후 내다보니 앨리스는 외톨이가 되어 앉아있었다．

"앨리스야, 저 애들이 너랑 같이 놀아주지 않는거야？"하고 물었다．

"아냐 엄마, 난 가정부야. 근데 오늘은 쉬는 날이야"라며 앨리스는 좋아했다．
