구안옹 < 푸르덴셜자산운용 대표 guan．ong@prucyber．com > 우리의 현재 행동은 과거에 의해 과도하게 영향을 받고 있는 것은 아닐까? 사람들에게 이런 질문을 해 보면 대답은 양쪽으로 비슷하게 나뉠 것이다. 우리는 어느 정도 미래의 결정을 내릴 때 과거에 의존하는 경우가 있다. 물론 과거의 성공에 대해서는 충분히 기뻐하고 실패에 대해서는 그 원인을 분석해야 한다. 그러나 과거로부터 배우고 난 후에는 앞을 향해 나아가야 한다. 과거에만 얽매일 경우 사고 프로세스가 제약되고 문제 해결을 위해 늘 같은 해결책만을 생각하게 돼 똑같은 실수가 반복될 것이다. 일부 업계에서 과거에 너무 의지했기 때문에 같은 문제에 봉착하는 것을 종종 보아왔다. 거울을 보며 자문해 보자.이 반복적인 문제의 사이클에서 어떻게 벗어날 수 있을까? 과거의 틀에서 벗어나 새로운 해결책을 모색하는 기회를 가질 필요가 있다. 한국은 글로벌사회의 일원이 돼 가고 있다. 다양한 문화와 원칙을 갖고 있는 글로벌사회에서 우리 자신과 아이들을 어떻게 준비시켜야 할까? 우선은 우리가 행동과 사고프로세스에서 글로벌 관점을 가져야 한다. 글로벌사회에서 통용되는 모든 생각에 동의해야 할 필요는 없겠지만 다양한 관점에서 바라보고 생각해 봄으로써 많은 것을 얻을 수 있다. 비즈니스 금융 과학 역사 예술 등의 분야를 막론하고 세계는 하나가 되고 있다. 한국에서도 많은 외국 영화가 개봉되고,국제 상품이 판매되고,국제적인 문화 프로모션,관광,도서전 등이 개최되고 있다. 이러한 것들을 많은 한국인이 관람하고 있다. 앞으로는 아시아·태평양경제협력체(APEC)와 같은 수준 높은 국제회의도 열리고,이에 대한 언론 보도도 이어질 것이다. 마음을 열고 이런 행사들로부터 폭넓은 시야를 가져보자. 오늘 우리 행동의 결과물은 내일을 살아가는 데 큰 영향을 끼친다. 따라서 우리는 더 나은 내일을 위해 끊임없이 자문하고 생각해야 한다. 이는 말처럼 쉬운 게 아니다. 지적인 도전을 통해 좋은 해결책을 찾기 위해서는 폭 넓은 관점을 갖추고 항상 준비돼 있어야 할 것이다. 한국경제신문을 통해 독자들을 만나온 지난 두 달은 참으로 보람된 시간이었다. 이 글을 통해 한경 독자들에게 인사를 대신한다. --------------------------------------------------------------------- A last goodbye！ Are our actions too much guided by the past? I believe if you ask around， you will probably get answers equally divided in each camp. I believe there is a tendency for all of us to continue to dwell on the past and to use successful historical actions to try and fit the future to it. By all means， let us celebrate historical successes or analyse historical failures， but after we learn from it， we must move on. If we do not， that will be our failure as we will restrict our thought processes and we continue to provide the same solutions and continue to make the same mistakes. For some of our industries， we have faced the same repeated problems. We have to look into the mirror and truly ask ourselves， how can we get out of this circular problem? Sometimes， we must let go of the past to allow ourselves the opportunity to explore new solutions. Korea is moving towards being connected to become part of the global world. To some， we are already part of the global family. The global world is multi cultural and multi disciplinary. How do we prepare ourselves and our children to face this world? We start by expanding our actions and thought processes to include global perspectives. You do not have to agree to all the ideas， but you will gain a lot from seeing things from different perspectives. Whether the subject is business， finance， science， history or art， the global connections and influences are already there. In Korea， there are already a lot of foreign movies， international products and travel exhibitions， cultural promotions， international book fairs etc. for us to attend. High level international conferences such as the APEC meetings are being held here too and these will be reported in the press. Expose your minds to them and gain the perspectives of the thought leaders. I truly believe that how we live tomorrow is mainly guided by the result of our actions today. Therefore， to have a better tomorrow， we must be constantly challenged intellectually. This may sound easy but to be able to provide good solutions， we must be ready.
