A lieutenant was brilliant in military matters but lacked social graces.

One day, he called a soldier into the office and said, "Kramer, your grandma died."

After the soldier left, the colonel told the lieutenant, "You could have been a little more tactful. I have some books at home that could help you."

The lieutenant read the colonel''s books and was ready for the next occasion, when Private Taylor''s grandfather passed away.

The next morning at reveille, the lieutenant said, "How many of you have a grandfather still living?"

When no one raised his hand, he continued, "See, it''s not so fast, Private Taylor!"

소위는 군대 일에는 밝았으나 사교적으로 세련되지 않은 사람이었다.

"좀 요령있게 해야지. 우리 집에 도움이 될 수 있는 책들이 좀 있네"

소위는 상사의 책들을 읽고 나서 다음에 그런 일이 있을 때에 대비했다.

이번엔 테일러 이병의 조부가 돌아가셨다.

이튿날 아침 기상점호땐 그는 "할아버지가 아직도 살아있는 사람 몇이나 되나?" 하고 물었다.

아무도 손을 들지 않자 그는 "봤지 테일러 이병, 그리 빨리 죽은 게 아니야!"
