Lucky Ltd. will construct a food additives "Sorbitol" manufacturing
plant in Thailand under a joint venture as part of its business
internationalization plan. This project is designed to lessen the firm''s
heavy dependence on the domestic demand.
On Jan. 15, the company formally entered into a joint-venture
contract with Thai Wah Co. of Thailand, at a share ratio of 50 to
50, in a ceremony held in Bangkok.
Sorbitol is made from corn and tapioca starch. The food additive
has the effect of giving natural sweetening, preventing any
degeneration of protein and regulating moisture. Sorbitol is used
in making soft drinks, confectioneries and synthetic liquors as
well as in processing marine products such as frozen fish. It is
also used as a moisture regulating material for cigarettes,
toothpaste and pharmaceuticals.
The company plans to supply its products in Thailand and export them
to the U.S., Japan and Southeast Asia.
