“Sculpture is very difficult, isn’t it?” asked the wide-eyed girl on her visit to the Greenwich Village studio.

“Nothing to it,” said the artist. “Right now I’m sculpting a horse. I merely take a block of marble, and I knock off anything that doesn’t look like a horse.”

“조각은 아주 힘든 일이죠?”하고 그린위치 빌리지의 한 스튜디오를 방문한 아가씨가 눈이 휘둥그레져서 물었다.

“거 별것 아닙니다”라고 조각가는 말했다. “내가 지금 작업하고 있는 건 말입니다. 대리석 한 덩이를 갖다놓고 말 모양이 아닌 부분을 쳐내기만 하면 되는 거랍니다.”
