A boy about seven years old came to the teller''s window at the bankand asked, "Do you have any money to loan?" A manager who happened to be around the place said that they did. Obviously delighted with the news, he nodded to two other littleboys in the doorway. Then, turning back to the manager, he said, "I need to borrow 35cents." When the banker asked why, he said that he had lost the bus moneyhe needed to get home from the movies, and his mother couldn''t andhis mother couldn''t come to pick him up. Here, the banker thought, was a chance to teach the boy the values of trust and responsibility. teller''s window : 출납창구 loan : 빌려주다 pick up : (사람을) 자동차로 마중나가다---------------------------------------------------------------------- 일곱살쯤 돼 보이는 소년이 은행 출납창구에 나타나서 "꿔줄돈 없어요?"하고 물었다. 때마침 그 창구 가까이에 있었던 은행간부 한사람은 꿔줄 돈이 있다고했다. 그 소리를 듣고 좋아하면서 소년은 문가에서 서성대는 다른 두꼬마에게고개를 끄덕여 보였다. "35센트 빌려야겠는데요"라고 했다. 영문을 물은즉, 영화를 보고 집으로 가는 길인데 버스요금을잃어버렸다는 것이다. 그렇다고 어머니가 데리러 와줄 처지도 아니고.... 그 간부행원은 그 소년에게 신뢰와 책임이 얼마나 소중한가를 가르쳐줄좋은 기회가 아니겠나 싶었다. (한국경제신문 1997년 10월 17일자).
