Samsung SDI Named as Top Partner by Jaguar Land Rover

Samsung SDI, a partner of JLR since 2018, recognized for its differentiated technologies and commitment to ongoing partnership

Samsung’s 21700 battery powers JLR’s premium Range Rover models, supporting them with fast charging and long lifespan features.

SEOUL, Korea – April 24, 2025 – Samsung SDI today announced that it has received the JLR Quality (JLRQ) Award from global premium automaker Jaguar Land Rover Automotive (JLR), certified as a top global partner.

JLR, founded in 2008, is a premium global car manufacturer that owns and operates the luxury brand Jaguar and SUV brand Land Rover.

The automaker has been recognizing and rewarding its top suppliers since 2010 for their efforts to provide high-quality products on time, contributing to mutual growth. The JLRQ Award is known for its rigorous evaluation process, assessing global partners based on criteria such as product quality levels and delivery reliability. By achieving the award, Samsung SDI is now recognized for its product technology and quality, which helps solidify the company’s position as an outstanding partner.

Samsung SDI has been supplying 21700 (21mm diameter and 70mm height) cylindrical batteries to JLR for its premium models including Range Rover and Range Rover Sport through a strategic partnership that began in 2018. The partnership continues for the All-New Range Rover and All-New Range Rover Sport which were launched in 2024.

Samsung SDI’s 21700 cylindrical battery is optimized for fast charging and long lifespan. With a high-nickel NCA cathode and Samsung SDI's proprietary silicon anode material technology, the battery can be charged quickly and maintains a long lifespan despite repeated charging.

The JLRQ Award is also notable for its tradition of JLR Procurement Vice President personally visiting the sites of the partners to present them with the certificate and plaque. The award ceremony was held at Samsung SDI Tianjin plant in China on April 23rd and was attended by key executives from JLR including Nick Wells, Vice President of Procurement for China Asia Pacific Region, and Zehgham Shah, Executive Director of Quality.

Samsung SDI was represented by Jeongjoon Park, Head of Samsung SDI’s Quality Division, Hans Cho, Head of Strategic Marketing at Samsung SDI’s Small Battery Business Division, and Jeongho Park, Head of Samsung SDI’s Tianjin subsidiary.
