A flight attendant，I watched a man rush onto our plane at the last minute before takeoff.He spotted one of the few empty seats on board and silently sat down.Later that night，though，he seemed bothered as the woman next to him fidgeted and got up frequently to use the bathroom.Still he never uttered a word.Feeling sorry for him，I quietly asked if he would like to move to another seat."My wife's been annoying me for 20 years，" he said with a chortle. "There's no sense in separating us now！"


여객기 승무원인 난 이륙 직전 한 남자가 헐레벌떡 탑승하는 걸 목격했다. 그는 몇 안 되는 빈좌석 하나를 찾아 말없이 앉았다. 그날 밤 옆자리의 여자가 안절부절못하며 자주 화장실을 들락거리면서 그 남자를 성가시게 구는 것 같았다. 그런데도 그는 아무 불평을 하지 않았다. 안쓰러운 생각이 든 난 다른 좌석으로 옮겨앉으면 어떻겠냐고 조용히 물었다. 그러자 그는 킬킬거리며 대답했다. "우리 마누라가 나를 이렇게 성가시게 군 지는 20년이나 됩니다. 이제 와서 갈라놓는다고 무슨 소용이 있겠어요！"
