Just about everything we would consider necessary already exists. Self－cleaning ovens， automatic transmissions, remote controllers， automotive navigation system， computers， to name just a few. However， I cannot understand why no one has thought to invent:

－ A microphone that becomes dumb the minute a politician exaggerates.

－ Trash bags that roll themselves out to the street.

－ A credit card that shuts down when overuse makes it too hot.

－ Pants that empty up their pockets before you dump them into the washing machine.


우리는 필요하다고 생각하는 것들을 거의 다 갖추고 있다. 몇 가지만 들어보자. 자동세척 오븐，자동변속장치, 자동차의 내비게이션 시스템, 컴퓨터 등이 그것이다. 그런데 이해할 수 없는 건 어째서 다음과 같은 물건들은 만들어낼 생각을 하지 않는가 하는 것이다.

－ 정치인이 허풍을 떨기 시작하면 그 순간 먹통이 돼버리는 마이크로폰.

－ 저절로 길가로 굴러나가는 쓰레기봉지.

－ 과도하게 사용하면 열을 받아 기능을 정지하게 되는 신용카드.

－ 세탁기로 들어가기 전에 호주머니를 비워주는 바지.
