There were 11 persons hanging on to a single rope that suspended them from a helicopter trying to bring them to safety.


Ten were men : one was a woman． Now one of them had to let go because the rope could not stand the weight.


No one could decide who it should be.


Finally the woman gave a really touching speech, saying how she would gladly give up her life to save the others, because women were used to giving things up for their husbands and children and giving to men.


All of the men started clapping.

그런데 로프가 그 무게를 이기지 못 할 것이므로 한 사람이 떨어져나가야 했다.


누가 떨어져 나가야 할 것인지 아무도 결심이 서지 않았다.


마침내 여자가 아주 감동적이 연설을 했다.


여자는 남편과 아이들을 위해 희생하며 남자에게 굴복하는 게 몸에 배있으니 자기가 남들을 구하기 위해 기꺼이 목숨을 내주겠다는 것이었다.


남자들은 하나같이 박수를 치기 시작했다.
