A farmer was busy working in the field when his son came running out to tell him that a man had just driven up to the house in a big automobile.


"Johnny," the farmer says, "run back to the house as fast as you can and ask that man what he is. If he says he is a law officer, lock the cellar where I keep the still. And if he says he is a salesman, just keep sitting on your mam's lap until I get there…"



농부가 밭에서 바삐 일하고 있는데 아들녀석이 달려와서 어떤 사람이 큰 차를 몰고 집에 왔다고 알렸다．


“얘, 너 힘껏 달려가서 그게 뭐하는 사람인지 알아봐라． 혹 관청에서 나온 사람이라면 밀주시설이 있는 지하실 문을 잠가버려라． 그게 아니고 물건 팔러 온 사람이면 내가 갈 때까지 엄마 무릎에 꼼짝 말고 앉아 있어라”
