Johnsons went away for their summer vacation andgave their maid, Jane, a month's wages before leaving.

On their return four weeks later, Jane demanded higher wages, or she would leave.

Mrs Johnson was horrified.

"Gracious," she exclaimed, "you've only just had a month off with full pay. You should consider yourself fortunate."

"That's just it,"she replied.

"You paid me all that money for doing nothing, so how can you expect me to do all this work now for the same wages?"

존슨네는 여름휴가를 떠나면서 가정부에게 한 달치 급료를 지불했다.

4주만에 돌아오니 아가씨는 급료를 올려주지 않으면 그만두겠다는 것이었다.

존슨부인은 아영실색해서 언성을 높였다.

"맙소사, 아니 한 달치를 공짜로 고마운 줄도 모르다니."

"그러니까 하는 말 아닙니까.

놀고도 그 만큼의 돈을 받았는데 일을 해주면서 똑 같은 돈을 받으라는 말이 안 되잖아요"
