Securities authorities said on Jan. 16 that securities firms will
be provided with 700 billion won so they can support the stock
market which remains in the doldrums.
Korea Securities Finance Corp. will supply 450 billion won and the
three investment trust firms will purchase 250 to 300 billion won
in the corporate bonds held by securities firms.
Until January 15 the stock market fell for five consecutive
days, with the composite stock price index hitting this year''s
lowest level of 883.04 points. This is also below the end 1988 close.
