Designer Luna Eunsol Kang Unveils FW26 Collection “Uniformity Meets Individuality,” Reinterpreting Korean School Uniform Culture Through a New York Lens
New York-based Korean fashion designer Luna Eunsol Kang has recently unveiled her FW26 collection for LUNA KANG. Titled “Uniformity Meets Individuality,” the collection combines the structural beauty of the classic uniform with the urban sensibility of New York and a contemporary expression of femininity.
Kang traces the starting point of the collection to the school uniform culture she experienced as a teenager in Korea. She focused on how students expressed their own personalities and tastes, even while dressing under the same rules and format. Drawing on this personal experience, Kang explored the relationship between the order, regularity, and sense of belonging that uniforms represent and the identity of each individual who wears them.
“Growing up in Korea, I wore the same school uniform as my classmates every day,” Kang said. “But even within the same rules, each of us found our own way to show who we were. That memory became the starting point for this collection.”
Classic tailoring sits at the center of the design. Kang reconstructed pieces associated with traditional uniforms, including precisely cut tailored jackets, pleated skirts, and shirts, using modern proportions and silhouettes. The collection also emphasizes the contrast between structured silhouettes and a softer femininity.
A key focus of the collection is the way it brings opposing elements into balance. Kang set out to express a femininity that is structured yet soft, classic yet modern, and polished yet personal. While keeping the shared format of the uniform intact, she introduced a lovely and distinctive mood within its restrained rules.
New York serves as the collection’s second major source of inspiration. Streets where classic architecture meets the modern cityscape, the fast pace of daily life, and the free self-expression of women from diverse cultural backgrounds and styles all shaped the work. By pairing New York’s modern, confident energy with the aesthetics of the classic uniform, Kang presents womenswear that allows the wearer to reveal her individuality naturally in everyday life.
Kang explained that she wanted to show that structure and softness, and rules and individuality, are not opposing ideas. “I hope the women who wear this collection feel free to be themselves, even within a polished, tailored look,” she added.
Kang earned her bachelor’s degree in fashion design from Academy of Art University in the United States and went on to complete a master’s program in fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York. She made her official debut in the American fashion industry by presenting a collection at New York Fashion Week in 2025.
Her design philosophy is rooted in an in-depth study of silhouette, proportion, and structural tailoring. By combining precise pattern-making and three-dimensional construction with delicate couture techniques, Kang has developed distinctive silhouettes and a design language of her own. Informed by her cultural experiences in Korea and the wide range of art and fashion she has encountered in the United States, she reinterprets the structure of traditional garments from a contemporary perspective, portraying a modern femininity in which strength and delicacy coexist.
The FW26 collection connects Kang’s upbringing in Korea with her creative base in New York through a single design language. It also marks an expansion of the structural tailoring she has consistently pursued into the realm of everyday womenswear.
