A father and his eight-year-old son hired me as their fishing guide for the day. As we quietly approached one of my favorite coves， another boat zoomed ahead of us and stopped to fish in the very spot I had staked out. Angry at their lack of courtesy， I let loose a few foul remarks. Later， as we moved to another spot and I calmed down， I apologized to the father for swearing in front of his son.

"That's all right，" he said，"I take him golfing with me."


난 여덟 살 된 아들애를 데리고 낚시하러 온 사람을 낚시터로 안내했다. 내가 점찍어 놓은 후미진 곳으로 조용히 다가가고 있는데 다른 보트가 요란스럽게 질주해 와서 우리를 앞질러 가더니 바로 우리가 가려던 곳을 그들의 낚시터로 정하는 것이었다. 그들의 무례함에 잔뜩 화가 난 내 입에서 욕지거리가 튀어나왔다. 다른 데를 찾아 이동하면서 분을 가라앉히자 나는 아이가 듣는 데서 상소리를 한 것에 대해 아이 아버지에게 사과했다.

"뭘요，얘는 내가 골프치러 갈 때도 따라다니는 걸요. "
