문장 구조는 반드시 평행 형태로 표현돼야만 한다.

학생들이 가장 쉽게 저지르는 실수는 평행 구조가 사용돼야 할 문장에 적절히 사용하지 못하고 반대로 평행 구조가 사용되지 않는 문장에 사용하는 우를 범하는 것이다.

Incorrect : They are sturdy，attractive，and cost only a dollar each.

Correct : They are sturdy and attractive，and they cost only a dollar each.

평행 구조의 문장은 반드시 문법적으로 평행의 형태로 표현돼야만 한다.

모두 명사형，모두 부정사형，모두 동명사형，모두 절의 형태로 사용돼야 한다.

Incorrect : All students should learn word processing，accounting，and how to program computers.

Correct : All students should learn word processing，accounting，and computer programming.

전치사，관사 혹은 소유격들이 한 시리즈 내의 각 단어들 앞에 쓰일 경우，모든 시리즈의 각 단어에 사용하든가 혹은 첫 번째 단어에만 사용해야 한다.

다르게 사용할 경우 평행 구조에 어긋나는 것이다.

So，let us look at two technologies that have definitely made the world a safer and more pleasant place.

First，technology has been developed to control diabetes.

This disease is very serious and still incurable，but it can now be managed，thanks to modern technology.

Until the mid－20th century，a diagnosis of diabetes was practically a death sentence.

Then the discovery of insulin provided a way to control diabetes.

In a few years，people with diabetes were able to give themselves life－saving injections of insulin.

Now diabetics can lead normal lives.

Technology made this happy situation possible.

Meanwhile，far overhead，weather satellites track storms and let meteorologists predict weather days in advance.

This technology makes the world much safer.

A satellite can detect the beginnings of a hurricane.

첫 번째로，기술은 당뇨병을 조절할 수 있도록 발달되었다.

당뇨병은 매우 심각한 질병이며 아직까지 불치병이지만 현재는 현대 기술로 의하여 관리할 수 있다는 것이다.

기술의 발달은 이러한 행복한 상황들을 만들어냈다.

반면에，저 높은 곳에，기상 위성은 태풍을 추적하고 앞서서 기상학자들이 날씨를 예측하도록 한다.

이러한 기술의 발달은 세상을 더욱 안전하게 만든다.

기상 위성은 허리케인의 생성을 감지할 수 있다.

그 다음，위성 사진은 허리케인의 진로를 추적하는 것을 가능하게 하였고，허리케인의 강도와 얼마나 많은 위험을 내재하였는가를 예상할 수 있게 만든다.
