There was a flood in the village. One man said to everyone， "I'll stay！ God will save me！" The flood got higher and a boat came and the man in it said." Come on man，get in！" "No，" replied the man." God will save me！" The flood got very high now and the man had to stand on the roof of his house. A helicopter soon came and the man offered him help." No，God will save me！" he said. Eventually he died of drowning. He got by the gates of heaven and said to God，" Why didn't you save me？" God replied， "For goodness sake！ I sent you a boat and a helicopter. What more do you want？"

마을에 물난리가 났다. 그런데 어떤 사람이 "난 여기 있을 거야, 하나님께서 구해조실 거니까!"라며 버텼다. 수위가 높아지자 보트가 다가오더니 거기 탄 사람이 "올라 타요!"하고 소리쳤다. 그런데 "일없어요. 난 하나님께서 구해주신다고요!"라며 사양하는 것이었다. 이제 수위는 아주 높아져 그는 지붕에 올라서야 했다. 잠시 후 헬리콥터가 다가와서 그를 구출하려고 했다. 그런데도 싫단다. "일없어요. 난 하나님께서 구해주신다고요!" 끝내 그는 물에 빠져죽었다. 천당 어귀에 이르자 그는 하나님께 항의했다. "어째서 구해주지 않으신 겁니까?" 하나님께서 대답하셨다. "이런! 보트를 보내주고 헬리콥터를 보내 줬으면 됐지 더 이상 어떻게 하라는 말인가!"
