An old man, on his death bed, wanted to take some of his money with him. He called his priest, his doctor and his lawyer to his bedside. "Here's $30,000 cash for each of you. I trust you to put this in my coffin when I die so I can take all my money with me."

At the funeral, each man put an envelope in the coffin. Riding away in a car, the priest suddenly broke into tears and confessed, "I had only put $20,000 into the envelope because I needed $10,000 for a new baptistry."

"Well,since we're confiding in each other," said the doctor, "I only put $10,000 in the envelope because we needed a new machine at the hospital."

The lawyer was aghast."I'm ashamed of both of you," he said. "I want it known that when I put my envelope in the that coffin, it held my personal check for the full $30,000."

죽음을 앞둔 노인의 소원은 돈을 가지고 갔으면 하는 것이었다.

그는 목사와 의사와 변호사를 불렀다.

"한 사람 앞에 3만달러씩 준비했는데 맡았다가 내가 죽으면 관에 속에 넣어서 가지고 가게 해줘요" 장례식에서 그들은 각기 봉투 하나씩을 관속에 넣었다.

돌아오는 차속에서 목사는 눈물을 흘리면서 고백하는 것이었다.

"나는 세례당을 새로 마련하는데 1만달러가 필요해서 2만달러 밖에 넣지 않았어요"

"이렇게 털어놓고 이야기하니 하는 말인데 나는 병원에 새 기계가 필요해서 봉투에는 1만달러밖에 넣지 않았어요"라고 말한 것은 의사.그러자 변호사가 대경실색했다.

"두 사람 다 염치가 없군.나는 분명히 해두고 싶은데,에누리 없는 3만달러짜리 수표가 든 봉투를 나는 관속에 넣었단 말입니다"
