When Mark Twain was lecturing in Utah, a Mormon acquaintance argued with him on the subject of polygamy.

After a long and rather heated debate, the Mormon finally said, "Can you find for me a single passage of Scripture which forbids polygamy?"

"Certainly," replied Twain.

"No man can serve two masters."

마크 트웨인이 유타에서 강의하고 있었던 어느날 모르몬교를 믿는 한 친지와 일부다처제를 놓고 논쟁을 벌이게 되었다.

토론이 한참 계속되면서 좀 열이 오르자 그 모르몬교도는 "아니 중혼을 금지하는 대목이 성경송에 어디 단 한군데라도 있냐구요?"라며 따졌다.

"있고말고요. ''두 주인을 섬기지 말지어다''"
