[해외유머] '피터의 동상'

In a town near Amsterdam they had to erect a statue to somebody no Dutchman ever heard of... "Pieter".

He is the brave little Dutch boy who stuck his finger in the dike and saved the area from flooding.

The story of Pieter is entirely an American invention, but so many American visitors asked about him that the Dutch decided it was only sensible to erect a statue in his honor.

암스테르담 근처의 한 고장에서는 네덜란드 사람들이 알지도 못 하는 ''피터''라는 사람의 동상을 세워야 했다.

그는 제방에 손가락을 찔러 넣어 그 고장이 물바다가 되는 것을 막았다는 네덜란드의 용감한 어린 소년이다.

피터 이야기는 전적으로 미국에서 지어낸 것이지만 미국에서 오는 살마들이 워낙 많이 물어대는 바람에 네덜란드 사람들은 그를 기리는 동상을 세우는 것이 현명한 처사라는 결정을 내리게 되었던 것.
