The owner of a large chain of restaurants who went over his books
discovered that his most trusted employee had stolen over a million
dollars from the firm.

"I want no scandal", said the owner to the clerk.

"I''ll just fire you and forget about the entire matter."

"Why fire me?" asked the employee. "I now have a yacht, a country
mansion, a town house, jewelry, and every liuxury you can think of. I
don''t need a thing, so you can trust me. Why hire somebody else and have
to start with him from the scratch?"

대규모 레스토랑 연쇄점 사장은 장부를 뒤지다가 가장 신임했던 사원이
회사돈을 1백만달러도 더 되게 횡령한 사실을 알아냈다.

그는 비행을 저지른 그 사원을 불러놓고 말했다.

"떠들썩하게 일이 터져나가게 하고 싶지는 않아. 자네를 해고하는것으로
완전히 덮어버릴 생각이야."

그러자 그 사원은 묻는 것이었다.

"어째서 저를 해고하려는 것입니까? 저는 이제 요트도 있고 시골별장도 있고
도심주택도 있고 보석을 비롯하여 사치품이라는 사치품은 죄다 장만했습니다.
이제 필요한 것이라고는 아무것도 없으니 저를 믿고 쓰실 수 있습니다.
그런데 어째서 새 사람을 고용하여 새로 시작하게 하려는 것입니까?"
