[해외유머] '위기타개 <상>'

Many years ago, in consequence of a commercial panic, there was a
severe run on a bank in a British rural town, and farmers jostled each
other in crowds to draw out their money,

Things were rapidly going from bad to worse, when the bank manager,
in fit of desperation, suddenly thought up an expedient.

By his directions a clerk, having heated some sovereigns in a
frying pan, paid them over the counter to an anxious applicant.

오래전 일인데 상업적인 공황으로 영국의 어느 시골 읍에 있는 은행에
돈을 찾으려 사람들이 몰려들어 소동을 빚었다.

농부들은 서로 밀치면서 돈을 찾으려고 법석댔다.

상황이 급속도로 악화하는 가운데 절망적인 심정을 어찌 할수 없었던
은행경영인은 불현듯 한가지 방법을 궁리해냈다.

그의 지시에 따라 행원 하나가 금화들을 프라이팬으로 달구었다가
예금을 인출하려고 초조하게 기다리고 있는 한 사람에게 건네줬다.
