[해외유머] '기지'

One day a clergyman noticed a woman whom he much disliked coming
up his front steps.

Taking refuge in his study, he left his wife to entertain the
caller.

Half an hour later he emerged from his retreat, listened carefully
on the landings and hearing nothing below, called down to his wife:

"Has that horrible old bore gone?"

The objectionable woman was still in the drawing room, but the
minister''s wife proved equal to the occasion.

"Yes, dear," she called back, "she went long ago.

"Mrs. Parket is here now."

어느날 목사는 무척 역겨운 여자가 현관으로 올라오는 것을 보고는
서재로 도피, 손님접대는 부인에게 맡겨버렸다.

반시간쯤 지나 서재에서 나온 목사는 계단 위쪽에서 기웃거렸으나
아래쪽에서 아무 소리도 들리지 않기에 부인에게 큰 소리로 물었다.

"그 지긋지긋한 노파 갔어요?"

그 역겨운 여자는 아직도 응접실에 있었으나 목사부인은 재치있게
그 상황을 처리했다.

"네에, 진작 갔어요. 지금 여기엔 파커부인이 와 계세요"
