A police officer,testifying against a salon keeper who had encouraged prostitution,said that he found a prostitute made the bar base of operations,had a room over the bar and took her customers up the backstairs to her room.

"How often did this happen?" the officer was asked. "She took men up to her room about fifteen times a day." "Good Lord," exlcaimed the judge,"what cruel self-inflicted punishment!" "That's right," agreed the policeman.

"All that stair climbing must be a terrible strain on the girl's heart!"
